Styling Your Wig

Putting on Your Wig

  1. Remove the protective hair net from the wig.
  2. Place your hand inside the wig. With the palm of your hand facing upward, spread your fingers open and grip the wig with your fingertips.
  3. Shake the wig hard to separate the hair.
  4. If using our wig/capliner, place the liner, with seams facing out, inside the wig first, then put on your head.
  5. Holding the wig at the front, place it at your natural front hairline and pull on by the nape. Adjust the wig as needed by sliding it from front to back or side to side.
  6. The wig can be made tighter or looser by adjusting the velcro tabs at the back of the wig.

Styling Your Wig

  1. Many wig styles, especially shorter ones, need only to be shaken and are ready to wear.
  2. Don't try to get every hair into place, this way it will look more natural.
  3. If you have selected a wig with some styling flexibility, play with it until you find the style that you like best.
  4. You may want your hair stylist to trim and/or thin the bangs, or trim the length of the wig slightly to suit your face. Use the chin strap in our Wig Styling Kit to keep your wig in place while styling or trimming.
  5. Once you are happy with the style, you can hold it in place with the Wig Hairspray, also available from TLC™.
  6. Do not use a color rinse on your wig, it will damage its fibers.
  7. Do not use a hair dryer or curling iron on your wig.
  8. Only use hair care products (shampoo, conditioner, etc.) specially formulated for wigs, such as those sold in TLC™.

Styling Tips for Different Wigs

  • Tight curly or ringlet styles
Shake the wig vigorously than gently lift and separate the curls with your fingers or a pick comb. (Do not brush.)
  • Wavy styles with loose curls
Brush lightly using short, lifting strokes to relax the style.
  • Straight styles
Brush in long, even, gentle strokes from the crown to the ends for a smooth, sleek look.
